The original Ford service ignition lock method is a convenient way to install a new factory assembled ignition lock in a car using 10-cut keys, and preserve the original matched lock system where the same key will operate the ignition and door locks same as when the car was new. Check the original car key and identify the depth of the cut in position 5 counting from the head of the key, (same as position 6 counting from the tip of the key). The keys supplied with the new lock are uncut in positions 1, 2, 3, 4, and 6 counting from the head of the key. (All future references in these instructions will refer to cut positions counting from the HEAD of the key only.) New locks are supplied with position 5 of the key pre-cut to either #1, #2, #3, #4, or #5 depth. After identifying the proper lock series to use, and identifying the depth of the cut in position 6 of the original car key, select the part number that you need from the list above. Transfer the cuts from positions 1, 2, 3, 4, and 6 only of the original car key to those same positions of the keys supplied with the new lock. Position 5 of the keys supplied with the new lock should be pre-cut to the same depth as position 5 of the original car key.
How to Order:
- Do not touch positions 7, 8, 9, and 10 of the keys supplied with the new lock.
- Upon doing this the keys supplied with the new lock should operate both the new ignition lock and the door locks. (The original car key will continue to operate the door locks but will not operate the new ignition lock.)
- Install the new ignition lock in the car and give the customer the new keys that will operate the new ignition lock and the door locks.
- Order new locks according to the following descriptions:
- Large ears chrome (applications using C-42-150 random coded lock or C-42-157 uncoded lock)
- C-42-151 - #1 depth in position 5 of the key
- C-42-152 - #2 depth in position 5 of the key
- C-42-153 - #3 depth in position 5 of the key
- C-42-154 - #4 depth in position 5 of the key
- C-42-155 - #5 depth in position 5 of the key
- Note: This system will not work on Mercury Villager and Nissan Quest. You must use the uncoded ignition lock C-42-157 and rekey to the original car key, or use C-42-150 random coded ignition lock.
