For those times when you are faced with needing a deadbolt to lock a door and required to meet the International building code (IBC), the egress deadbolt indicator (EDI) is your only answer. The EDI is an add-on indicator rose for Schlage and Falcon commercial deadbolts. The EDI makes it possible to add the required lock status indicator to a double cylinder deadbolt, allowing the door assembly to comply fully with the IBC’s Locks and Latches requirement. With its large type and clearly distinguishable red and green status indicators, the EDI adds the safety the IBC is requiring by making the deadbolt’s status clear from any distance. One of the greatest things about the EDI is its ease of installation. If the door is already prepped for a deadbolt, either the existing or a new deadbolt along with the EDI can easily be added without having to do any further machining or additional preps to the door. Yes, it fits the industry standard 2-1/8” face hole for a cylindrical deadbolt! This allows easy installation in both existing and new doors. As more jurisdictions around the country start enforcing the IBC requirements of the deadbolt being “The locking device is readily distinguishable as locked,” the EDI will be the choice to fill this requirement.
